About This Worksheet
This worksheet helps eleventh-grade Algebra 2 students understand that exponential equations and logarithmic equations are two different ways to describe the same relationship. Students are given twelve exponential statements in one column and twelve logarithmic statements in another. Their job is to match each exponential form with the logarithmic form that says the exact same thing.
For example, an exponential statement such as 25 = 32 matches the logarithmic statement log2 32 = 5. The numbers do not change-the form changes. Students also complete a short rule at the bottom of the page that summarizes how bx = y connects to logarithmic notation.
What Students Practice
Students practice moving mentally between exponential and logarithmic form. They identify the base, exponent, and result in an exponential equation and then locate those same three pieces in the matching logarithmic equation.
The matching format gives students repeated exposure to the basic structure without requiring a lot of extra algebra. This makes the worksheet useful for building recognition before students begin solving more difficult exponential and logarithmic equations.
